The Financial Times has consistently been at the forefront of digital publishing. With the emergence of AI we’ve been keen to explore how it may assist with the presentation of our journalism to readers, as well as help us find and discover new stories. This talk will cover some of the AI experiments run in the FT newsroom, from the creation of our “AI playground”, which we have used to test and develop prompts with FT copy, to the formation of a new computational journalism team, which seeks to use AI to find leads and themes in unstructured data sets. From AI-powered search to on-site bullet point summaries - and integration into our CMS - this presentation will show the scope and scale of the work we are doing, and shed light on what other newsrooms can do with this technology.
