Intorno al mondo sulle tracce di un esploratore dimenticato: «Il fantasma di Lumholtz» di Morten Strøksnes
Dopo aver appassionato i lettori in tutto il mondo con Il libro del mare, Morten Strøksnes dedica il suo nuovo libro al grande esploratore norvegese Carl Lumholtz (1851–1922), fotografo, collezionista e antropologo da tempo dimenticato. Muovendosi tra diario di viaggio, biografia, nature writing e storia dell’esplorazione, Strøksnes viaggia attorno al mondo sulle tracce di Lumholtz, dalla nativa Lillehammer fino in Australia, Messico, Stati Uniti e Sud Est Asiatico: attraversa a piedi le zone più selvagge e mitiche della Sierra Madre per incontrare nuovamente i rarámuri e i wixárika, affronta i fiumi impetuosi del Borneo centrale alla ricerca dei dayak, visita i popoli aborigeni del Queensland e i tohono o’odham nella loro riserva nell’Arizona occidentale, riflettendo su come queste popolazioni native, al tempo di Lumholtz ritenute inadatte alla sopravvivenza, siano oggi considerate da molti una grande risorsa e una preziosa guida spirituale e ambientale.
