In this session, foundations from various philanthropic sectorsâincluding media, banks, financial institutions and â explore the evolving role of their funding strategies, debating whether the next frontier lies in supporting traditional journalism or expanding into broader public interest information. Panelists will discuss, from the fundersâ point of view, the blurring lines between journalism, civic engagement, and knowledge dissemination, addressing how digital platforms, misinformation, and community needs are reshaping their priorities. The conversation will center around how philanthropy can best drive positive change, balance media sustainability with innovation, and foster a more informed, engaged public. The key questions this session aims to address: Are funders looking more broadly to fund new forms of public interest information? If so, how can journalism adapt to such a shift? Moderated by Paul Nemitz.
