Description
Machiavelli opera una radicale rottura nella tradizione filosofico-politica occidentale. Non fa suo l’elogio della concordia fra le diverse parti della “città” elaborato dal pensiero antico e ancora diffuso nella cultura rinascimentale. Ritiene invece che i “tumulti”, i conflitti politici condotti in certe forme, possano mantenere viva la libertà e portare a novità istituzionali importanti. Machiavelli lascia così in eredità al pensiero moderno e contemporaneo il problema di come coniugare libertà e conflitto, in una società profondamente divisa per appartenenze sociali e valori.
