Information
Christina Assi
Christina Assi, 29, is a Lebanese photojournalist and photo editor with Agence France-Presse (AFP). She was deeply influenced by her upbringing amid regional conflicts, driving her commitment to documenting complex realities. Her life took a tragic turn in October 2023 when she was gravely injured by an Israeli tank shell attack while reporting in southern Lebanon and had her right leg amputated. Following this harrowing experience, Assi became a strong advocate for journalists’ safety. She participated in the 2024 Olympic torch relay in Paris, dedicating her journey to the memory of all journalists who have died in the line of duty. In December 2024 she was named by the BBC among the top 100 most influential women of 2024.
