The mafia boss, the president, and me: an investigation by Can Dundar

Can Dündar was until 2016 editor-in-chief of Cumhuriyet and one of the most famous journalists in Turkey. But after his revelation of weapons deliveries from Erdogan's Turkish secret service to Islamist rebels in Syria, he was forced to flee into exile to Germany.
In Berlin he continued to work. He is a member of the panel of judges of the European Press Prize. But he is also still an investigative journalist.
In his latest documentary The Mafia Boss, The President, and Me, he was able to report on a notorious criminal and former supporter of President Erdogan who changed sides and reported on the involvement of senior government figures and state employees in criminal activities such as corruption, drug smuggling and extrajudicial killings. Can himself was one of the targets of the Turkish mobster; he had promised to “take a shower“ in Can's blood. The documentary was aired on Germany's ARD channel.
David Schraven will interview Can on the question how to survive in exile and still conduct important investigations. He will ask him about the importance and hurdles of such work, and how he is able to work in exile with the biggest news organisations in the world.
